The land rises. Hills of 3 to 22 metres cover the country, and mountain ranges reach 60 to 150 metres in the highlands and the scar country.

Mountains

The ranges have ridged crests, broad terraces with gentle ramps and short cliff risers, and weathered gullies. Mesas and plateaus stand in the barrens, and rivers run in valley floors and gorges. Snow and rock follow the landforms. A climb rule stops you walking up faces steeper than about 49 degrees; downhill and across a slope are always open.

The road is a path

On new journeys the road meanders in S-bends and slow sweeps: tighter in the pinewood and hills, lazier on open snow and marsh. It reads as a worn winter track, a trodden trough of packed snow with broken edges, wheel ruts, footprints and patches of bare earth. About one stretch in seven fades under drifts and picks up again further on. It stays graded, never steeper than 6 percent.

Light and atmosphere

Valleys fill with layered fog at dawn and at night while the ridges stay clear. Cloud shadows drift over sunlit ground with the wind, and small, crisp contact shadows sit at feet, prop bases and fence posts. Each has a slider in the look settings.

Fixes

You now wake half healed after a fall, with cuts and bites dressed. Right after a warp or a waystone trip, Use acts on what is beside you, not on what stood beside your old position.
